DISTRICT TEACHERS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

Dripping Springs ISD announced the district’s 2021 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year at the May 24 Board of Trustees meeting. The DSISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Kristen Northrup, second-grade teacher at Rooster Springs Elementary, and the DSISD Secondary Teacher of the Year is Micki Whitacre, Statistics/Algebra 2 teacher at Dripping Springs High School. These individuals now will represent Dripping Springs ISD in the 2021 Texas Teacher of the Year program.
Rooster Springs Elementary second-grade teacher Kristen Northrup is in her 14th year with DSISD. She has taught first, second, and third grades at RSE. Overall, Northrup has been teaching for 20 years, previously working at a pair of Pennsylvania school districts – four years at Sullivan County School District and three at North East School District. She is certified in Generalist (EC-4) and English as a Second Language (EC-4). Northrup received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Millersville University and has accumulated several credits towards a master’s degree.
Dripping Springs High School teacher Micki Whitacre is in her fourth year at DSISD and 12th year teaching. She currently teaches University of Texas OnRamps Statistics (dual credit), AP Statistics, and Algebra 2 at DSHS. Prior to coming to DSISD, Whitacre taught for seven years at Lehman High School in Hays CISD and one year at Overton ISD. Whitacre, who is certified in Mathematics (Grades 8-12), graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
In addition to Northrup and Whitacre, other Campus Teachers of the Year were: Laurie Burton (DSMS, English Language Arts/English as a Second Language), Raquel Flores (DSE, bilingual first grade), Jennifer Franco (WSE, pre-K), Tori Pattison (SSE, first grade), and Rebecca Smart (SSMS, eighth-grade Social Studies).
Campus Teachers of the Year are selected by their school colleagues; the District Teachers of the Year are chosen following an interview with a selection committee.
The Dripping Springs ISD Teacher of the Year program is sponsored by Moody Orthodontics, in conjunction with the Dripping Springs Education Foundation.
SE ANUNCIAN LOS MAESTROS DEL AÑO A NIVEL DISTRITO
Dripping Springs ISD anunció a los maestros del año 2021 de primaria y secundaria del distrito en la asamblea general de la Mesa Directiva del 24 de mayo. La maestra del año de primaria DSISD es Kristen Northrup, maestra de segundo grado en la primaria Rooster Springs Elementary, y la maestra del año de nivel secundario DSISD es Micki Whitacre, maestra de estadística y álgebra 2 en la preparatoria Dripping Springs High School. Estas personas ahora representarán a Dripping Springs ISD en el programa Maestro del año de Texas 2021.
La maestra de segundo grado de Rooster Springs Elementary, Kristen Northrup, está en su decimocuarto año con DSISD. Ella ha enseñado primero, segundo y tercer grado en RSE. En general, Northrup ha estado enseñando durante 20 años, anteriormente trabajó en un par de distritos escolares de Pensilvania: cuatro años en el distrito Sullivan County School District y tres en el distrito North East School District.
