DSHS SCIENCE TEACHER IS FINALIST FOR TEACHING AWARD
Dripping Springs High School science teacher Alissa Nevin is one of four finalists for the Teaching Excellence Award from the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Austin. The Teaching Excellence Award recognizes Austin area high school teachers who have demonstrated instructional expertise, classroom innovation and the ability to cultivate students' ability to think critically, who expland their own knowledge in the liberal arts and sciences, and who share their own classroom success for the benefit of their colleagues.
The winning teacher, which will be announced in October, will receive an award of $2,500 and the winner's school will be presented with $500 to be spent for a project at the direction of the winner.
Ms. Nevin is in her 19th year on the faculty at DSHS. This year she is teaching AP Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, and is the instructional coach for the Science Department. Ms. Nevin earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Austin College, receiving her B.A. in Chemistry and her M.A. in Teaching.
Other finalists represent Pflugerville High School, Bowie High School, and Elgin High School. This award was initiated in 2018. Since its founding in 1776, the Phi Beta Kappa national academic honor society has recognized and celebrated excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.
MAESTRA DE CIENCIAS DE DSHS ES FINALISTA DEL PREMIO A LA ENSEÑANZA
Alissa Nevin, maestra de ciencias en la preparatoria Dripping Springs High School, es una de cuatro finalistas del Premio a la Excelencia en la Enseñanza de la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos Phi Beta Kappa del Gran Austin. El Premio a la Excelencia en la Enseñanza reconoce a los maestros de escuelas preparatorias del área de Austin que han demostrado experiencia en la enseñanza, innovación en el aula, y la capacidad de cultivar la capacidad de los estudiantes para pensar de forma crítica, que explican su propio conocimiento en artes liberales y ciencias, y que comparten su propio éxito en el aula para el beneficio de sus colegas.
El maestro ganador, que se anunciará en octubre, recibirá un premio de $2,500 y la escuela del ganador recibirá $500 para gastar en un proyecto bajo la dirección del ganador.
La Sra. Nevin lleva 19 años en la facultad de DSHS. Este año está enseñando Química AP y Química Orgánica y es la entrenadora de instrucción del Departamento de Ciencias. La Sra. Nevin obtuvo su licenciatura y maestría con Austin College, recibiendo su licenciatura en química y su maestría en enseñanza.
Otros finalistas representan a Pflugerville High School, Bowie High School y Elgin High School. Este premio se inició en 2018. Desde su fundación en 1776, la sociedad de honor académica nacional Phi Beta Kappa ha reconocido y celebrado la excelencia en las artes liberales y las ciencias.
