MESSAGE REGARDING STUDENT TRANSPORTATION

As we prepare for students’ return to on-campus instruction, our Transportation Department is focusing on implementing the health and safety protocols outlined in our Return to School Plan (see below). We are asking parents for their support in the area of transportation. ● TEA Public Health Planning Guidance states, “School systems should encourage families to drop students off, carpool, or walk with their student to school to reduce possible virus exposure on buses.” ● Students must register for transportation services if transportation services are necessary. ● Students will be assigned seats based on the route. ● Siblings will be seated in the same seat. ● Hand sanitizer will be used when entering and exiting the bus. ● Masks will be required for all students on the bus as social distancing cannot take place. ● Buses will be cleaned and sanitized twice per day with a focus on high-touch surfaces. ● The current recommendation is that some bus windows remain open to permit fresh air circulation.

Additional Reminders: ● Please remind your child of the masking requirement to ride the bus; students will not be permitted to board the bus without one. ● Please remind your child to practice social distancing at their bus stop. ● While on the bus, students are required to remain seated at all times and keep their hands and arms to themselves. Students should not touch each other or share any items.

How Parents Can Help: As noted in the TEA Public Health Guidance above, we encourage our families to use other transportation options to and from school if possible (drop students off, carpool, or walk with their student). Lower ridership will allow for greater social distancing on our buses and enable us to focus on meeting the needs of our families that do not have another transportation option. Parents who indicated during enrollment verification that their child would be riding the bus and have another option available to use, were asked to email the Transportation Department by the end of the day on Wednesday, Sept. 2, so we can update information before finalizing bus routes. Once we have final data for in-person learning and bus ridership, routes can be completed and should be available Sept. 8, 2020. Transportation staffing has always been a challenge at the beginning of the school year, and this year we have more vacant positions than normal. In addition, we are experiencing longer-than-usual turnaround times for the state’s driver certification process if new drivers are hired. We have typically been able to cover shortages with substitute drivers and existing staff members. Currently, our substitute pool is very limited. Please be aware that we are trying very hard to maintain the level of service our families expect, but adjustments may be necessary for routes. It is possible that, as the school year progresses, we may need to further adjust routes if drivers become unavailable due to absences, illnesses, or quarantines.

MENSAJE SOBRE EL TRANSPORTE DE ESTUDIANTES

Mientras nos preparamos para el regreso de los alumnos a la instrucción en la escuela, nuestro Departamento de Transporte se enfoca en implementar los protocolos de salud y seguridad descritos en nuestro Plan de Regreso a la Escuela (ver más abajo). Les pedimos a los padres su apoyo en el área del transporte.

● La Guía de Planificación de Salud Pública de la TEA establece que "los sistemas escolares deben animar a las familias a llevar a sus estudiantes a la escuela, compartir el automóvil, o si es posible, caminar con sus estudiantes a la escuela para reducir la posible exposición al virus en los autobuses." ● Los alumnos deben registrarse para los servicios de transporte si los servicios de transporte van a ser necesarios. ● A los estudiantes se les asignarán asientos según la ruta. ● Los hermanos se sentarán en el mismo asiento. ● Se usará desinfectante de manos al entrar y salir del autobús. ● Se requerirán máscaras para todos los estudiantes en el autobús ya que no puede haber distanciamiento social. ● Los autobuses se limpiarán y desinfectarán dos veces al día con un enfoque en las superficies de alto contacto. ● La recomendación actual es que algunas ventanas del autobús permanezcan abiertas para permitir la circulación de aire fresco.

Recordatorios adicionales: ● Favor de recordar a su hijo el requisito de recubrimiento facial para viajar en el autobús; a los estudiantes no se les permitirá subir al autobús sin llevarlo puesto. ● También, favor de recordar a su hijo que practique el distanciamiento social en la parada de autobús. ● Mientras estén dentro del autobús, los estudiantes deben permanecer sentados en todo momento y mantener las manos y los brazos quietos. Los estudiantes no deben tocarse ni compartir ningún artículo.

Cómo pueden ayudar los padres: Como se indica en la Guía de Salud Pública de la TEA arriba, animamos a nuestras familias a usar otras opciones de transporte hacia y desde la escuela si es posible (dejar a los estudiantes, compartir el automóvil, o caminar con sus estudiantes). Un menor número de pasajeros permitirá un mayor distanciamiento social en nuestros autobuses y nos permitirá concentrarnos en satisfacer las necesidades de nuestras familias que no tienen otra opción de transporte. A los padres que indicaron durante la verificación de inscripción que su hijo viajaría en el autobús y que tenían otra opción disponible para usar, se les pidió que enviaran un correo electrónico al Departamento de Transporte.al final del día el miércoles 2 de septiembre, para que podamos actualizar la información antes de finalizar las rutas de autobús. Una vez que tengamos los datos finales para el aprendizaje en persona y los pasajeros en autobús, las rutas se pueden completar y deberían estar disponibles el 8 de septiembre de 2020. Siempre ha sido un desafío contratar el suficiente número de personal para conducir los autobuses de transporte escolar al comienzo del año escolar y este año tenemos más puestos vacantes de lo normal. Además, ha habido tiempos de respuesta más largos de lo habitual para el proceso de certificación de conductores del estado si se contratan nuevos conductores. Por lo general, hemos podido cubrir la escasez con conductores sustitutos y miembros del personal existentes. Actualmente, nuestro grupo de sustitutos es muy limitado. Tenga en cuenta que estamos haciendo un gran esfuerzo para mantener el nivel de servicio que esperan nuestras familias, pero es posible que sea necesario realizar ajustes en las rutas.
