SIX MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR STATE HISTORY CONTEST

More than 20 Sycamore Springs Middle School students competed at the CenTex Regional History Fair on Feb. 22, 2020, and the projects of six students are moving on to the state contest in April. Two other projects won special awards and three others recorded top-three finishes.

Projects that placed first or second in their categories and earned the right to move on to state competition are:

Documentary - Individual 1st - Elodie Griffin - "Nellie Bly" 2nd - Izzy Verhulst - "Gloria Steinem"

Performance - Individual 2nd - Luke Voss - "Discovery of Insulin"

Website - Individual 1st - Molly Breland - "Walt Disney"

Website - Group 1st - Stephanie Gearing and Michael Gearing - "The Wright Brothers"

Two projects won special awards. Elodie Griffin received the Daughters of the American Revolution Women in American History Award for her Nellie Bly documentary, and the pair of Audrey Avery and Susan Nestlerode won the Locke Lord LLP Legal History Award for their exhibit on Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

In addition, three student projects placed third in their categories, just missing the cut-off to advance to state competition:

Documentary - Group 3rd - Walter Bristol and Zach Betzing - "The Rockets of Coalwood"

Exhibit - Group 3rd - Aaley Larson and Madisann Muth - "Katherine Johnson"

Performance - Individual 3rd - Bliss Mohon - "Joan of Arc"

SEIS ALUMNOS DE SECUNDARIA CALIFICAN PARA EL CONCURSO DE HISTORIA ESTATAL

Más de 20 alumnos de la secundaria Sycamore Springs Middle School compitieron en la Feria de Historia Regional CenTex el 22 de febrero, 2020, y los proyectos de seis de los alumnos pasarán al concurso estatal en abril. Otros dos proyectos ganaron premios especiales y otros tres obtuvieron los tres primeros lugares.

Dos proyectos ganaron premios especiales.
