AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN HONORS CURRENT AND PAST TIGER ATHLETES
Dripping Springs High School athletes were named to the Austin American-Statesman's 2019 fall sports All-Central Texas teams. The honorees were led by senior Avery Kalsu, who was named the Volleyball Player of the Year and was named to the All-Centex First Team as its utility player. Kalsu led the DSHS volleyball team to the regional finals in 2019 and a state tournament appearance in 2018. In 2019, she hit .434, had 350 kills, 918 assists, and 551 digs. Also honored was senior Mackenzie Murray, earning third-team honors. Murray finished 2019 with 430 kills, 390 digs, 44 aces, and 19 blocks.
Junior Maddie Livingston was named to the five-person girls' cross country All-Centex Team. Livingston was the top finisher at the 5A state meet (35th place) for the seventh-place DSHS team in 2019. Livingston also finished third at the 5A Region IV Meet. Honored on the All-Centex Football Third Team was junior offensive lineman Jack Masters. Masters graded out at a 97 blocking percentage, helping pave the way for the District-champion Tigers offense.
The American-Statesman also recently published its"Best of the 2010s", a series recognizing all-decade teams across all UIL athletics. Nine DSHS athletes made the lists for their respective sports.
Parker French, 2010-12: Four-year letterwinner who earned two first-team, all-Centex nods as a pitcher and also hit .427 in his career while anchoring Tigers’ lineup.
Kris Tyrpak, 2010: Two-time all-Centex player of the year capped his brilliant prep career with 39 goals, 15 assists for the Tigers' Class 4A state semifinalist team.
Brandi Needham, 2010-2013: Three-time district MVP went 82-12 over her final three seasons with 664 strikeouts and set multiple school records, including consecutive wins (27), career wins (86), career shutouts (39) and career winning percentage (.832).
Camille Corona, 2016-19: Four-time All-Centex selection in the middle infield who capped her career by hitting .647 with 27 RBI, 40 stolen bases and 72 runs.
Jessica Shepard, 2010-12: Named the Outstanding Swimmer in the Class 4A ranks in 2012, Shepard won the gold medal in the 100 backstroke with a state-record time of 55.62 seconds and finished second in the 200 IM.
Jayci Goldsmith, 2017-18: In two seasons on the Tigers’ tennis team, the southpaw won a pair of Class 5A girls singles titles while becoming the first Tiger to win gold in spring tennis.
Morgyn Greer, 2012-15: One of three athletes who earned player-of-the-year honors twice in the decade, the 2015 state champion and state tournament MVP fired 1,813 kills in her final three seasons.
Avery Kalsu, 2016-19: Four-year letterwinner and All-Centex Player of the Year did it all for a strong Tiger program with 818 career kills, 174 aces, 1,584 digs and 3,242 assists.
Luke Hodsden, 2013-16: A four-time state qualifier who won back-to-back titles in the Class 4A 182-pound class as a junior and senior without dropping a match.
