SCHEMATIC DESIGN FOR WSE PRESENTED


At the Nov. 18 Board of Trustees meeting, the schematic design for the new Walnut Springs Elementary to be built at the site of Dripping Springs Middle School was presented. The WSE relocation and renovations to Dripping Springs Middle School were included in the 2018 bond. The presentation can be viewed here. The presentation includes a few slides on Dripping Springs Middle School renovations, but more detailed information on this aspect of the project will be coming in future months. DSISD Director of Facilities and Construction Clint Pruett, and representatives from Corgan Architects presented a summary of the schematic design for the new Walnut Springs Elementary building. Mr. Pruett summarized the extensive input-gathering process that was used since the project’s initial programming phase. Architect Erin Ortwein shared the priorities that were incorporated into the design, such as safety, a student-centered focus, good acoustics, and sufficient classroom size. Ms. Ortwein displayed a site plan, and explained proposed traffic flow, pick-up queue locations, and parking areas. She also shared a proposed floor plan and explained the proposed use of each area. Interior design ideas for the building were shared, including materials, color patterns, and proposed features such as interactive walls. Ms. Ortwein also explained some of the planned improvements for Dripping Springs Middle School including new collaborative spaces, outdoor learning spaces, Functional Academics area, and repurposing a space in the D wing to use for small theatre performances.
