KALSU NAMED ALL-CENTEX FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR; OTHER DSHS STANDOUTS HONORED
DSHS's Avery Kalsu has been named the Austin American-Statesman's All-Centex Female Athlete of the Year for 2018-19. Also named the volleyball athlete of the year, Kalsu was honored at a banquet on June 10 in Austin. Kalsu (pictured with Houston Texans quarterback and banquet speaker Deshaun Watson) was a standout on the DSHS volleyball team that qualified for the state tournament in 2018 and was named all-state by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the District 25-5A player of the year. In track and field this spring Kalsu finished fourth in the 400 meters at the 5A state meet in a time of 56.46 seconds. That time reset her own school record in the 400 meters for the second time this year. Kalsu will be a senior next fall.
Joining Kalsu at the Statesman's inaugural Best of All-Centex Preps awards banquet at the Palmer Events Center were other DSHS standout athletes who were named to all-centex teams in their respective sports:

KALSU FUE NOMBRADA LA MEJOR ATLETA FEMENINA DEL AÑO Y OTROS DEPORTISTAS DE DSHS SON HONRADOS
Avery Kalsu de DSHS ha sido nombrada Atleta Femenina del Año All-Centex 2018-19 por el periódico Austin American-Statesman. También nombrada atleta de vóleibol del año, Kalsu fue honrada durante un banquete el 10 de junio en Austin. Kalsu (en la foto con el mariscal de campo de los Houston Texans y orador de banquetes Deshaun Watson) destacó en el equipo de vóleibol de DSHS cuando clasificó para el torneo estatal en 2018 y fue nombrada ‘all-state’ por la asociación de entrenadoras femeninas de Texas y jugadora del año a nivel distrito 25-5A. Esta primavera, Kalsu terminó en cuarto lugar en los 400 metros de pista y campo en la estatal 5A con un tiempo de 56.46 segundos. Con ese puntaje, ella restableció su propio récord escolar en los 400 metros por segunda vez este año. Kalsu comienza su último año de prepa este otoño.
