Walnut Springs Elementary Principal Julie Pryor has announced that she will retire at the end of the school year.

Mrs. Pryor is in her 10th year as the principal of Walnut Springs Elementary and her 21st as a school administrator. She was the principal at three different elementary schools in Austin ISD before coming to DSISD. In 2018, Mrs. Pryor was one of five state finalists for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Elementary Principal of the Year.

In a Jan. 7 letter to WSE parents, she shared: "The last 10 years of my principalship have been the most rewarding due to the incredible support from our parents and this amazing community. My experience serving our staff and the children of our community has brought me a tremendous amount of joy. The relationships that I have made during my tenure at Walnut are and will always remain precious to me."

According to DSISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, "Mrs. Pryor is masterful at cultivating relationships and building trust. She is passionate about providing all children with the conditions and support they need to succeed."

He continued,"Moving forward, we will look for a leader who will build on that positive learning environment and lead the school during a very exciting time for Walnut Springs Elementary as we design a new facility to serve its students and staff."
