TIGER BAND ENDS SUCCESSFUL COMPETITION SEASON
The Dripping Springs High School marching band traveled to St. Louis Oct. 26-27 to compete in the Bands of America SuperRegionals. The event, which wrapped up the fall competition season, featured 74 other high school bands from 15 states including Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.
The Tiger Band placed first in their division (Class AAA) overall, as well as winning two of the three special awards that were presented: Visual Performance and General Effects. From the four divisions, a total of 14 bands qualified for finals. DSHS finished sixth with 86.6 points, the highest ranking band in their class.
The DSHS band had a successful fall overall, under the direction of first-year Director of Bands Derek Woods. At the Capital City Marching Festival Sept. 29, the band received first place overall, first place Color Guard, second place percussion, and achieved the top score of the entire competition. At the Westlake Marching Festival Oct. 6, DSHS won its class, qualified for finals, and placed second overall among all divisions. The Tiger Band also won special awards for Best Auxiliary, Music Execution and Marching Execution. At the UIL Contest Oct. 23, the Tiger Band received a Superior rating "1" from all three judges, which qualified for Sweepstakes.
"I'm tremendously proud of the 2018 Tiger Band" said Mr. Woods. "The students, parents and staff have really helped to create one of my favorite productions of the past 16 years and I'm very grateful to all of them for their dedication and hard work over the entire season. This group never gave up, even when the weather kept conditions far from ideal."
LA BANDA MUSICAL TIGRE TERMINA UNA TRIUNFANTE TEMPORADA DE COMPETENCIAS
La banda musical Tigre de Dripping Springs High School viajó a St. Louis el 26 y 27 de octubre para competir en el evento Bands of America SuperRegionals. El evento en el cual participaron 74 bandas de preparatoria de 15 estados incluyendo a Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas y Nuevo Mexico, cerró la temporada de competencias de otoño.
La banda Tigre salió en primer lugar general en su división (clase AAA), y también ganó dos de los tres premios especiales que fueron otorgados: Visual Performance (presentación visual) y General Effects (efectos generales). De las cuatro divisiones, un total de 14 bandas calificaron para finales. DSHS terminó en sexto lugar con 86.6 puntos, la banda con la calificación más alta de su clase.
La banda DSHS tuvo un otoño de éxito en general, bajo la dirección de Derek Woods en este su primer año como director.
