DISTRICT TEACHERS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

Dripping Springs ISD announced the 2018 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year at the May 21 Board of Trustees meeting. The DSISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Brandis Smoland, third-grade teacher at Sycamore Springs Elementary, and the DSISD Secondary Teacher of the Year is Sara Freeman, AP Calculus/Pre-Cal teacher at Dripping Springs High School. These individuals now will represent Dripping Springs ISD in the 2018-19 Texas Teacher of the Year program.

Before joining the inaugural SSE staff, Ms. Smoland spent four years at Dripping Springs Elementary. Ms. Smoland brought 12 years of teaching experience with her to DSISD: four in Aiken County Schools (S.C.) and eight in Hutto ISD. In her career she has taught pre-K through third grade. In addition to her teaching certification, she also has her principal certification. Ms. Smoland earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin University.

Veteran teacher Sara Freeman is in her eighth year at Dripping Springs High School, after teaching 26 years at Plano High School. She teaches Calculus and Pre-Cal at the AP and GT levels. In addition to her math certification, Ms. Freeman also is certified to teach English at the secondary level. Ms. Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Baylor University

In addition to Smoland and Freeman, other Campus Teachers of the Year were: Laura Black (Dripping Springs Middle School), Capri Heintz (Rooster Springs Elementary), Nicole McGilvray (Sycamore Springs Middle School), Reyna Sandoval (Dripping Springs Elementary), and Kris Schmidl (Walnut Springs Elementary).

Campus Teachers of the Year are selected by their school colleagues; the District Teachers of the Year are chosen following an interview with a selection committee.

LAS MAESTRAS DEL AÑO DE DISTRITO

Dripping Springs ISD anunció los nombres de las Maestras del Año 2018 de primaria y de secundaria a nivel distrito durante la asamblea de la mesa directiva escolar el 21 de mayo. La maestra del año DSISD de primaria es Brandis Smoland, quien enseña tercer grado en Sycamore Springs Elementary, y la maestra del año DSISD a nivel superior es Sara Freeman, quien enseña AP Calculus/Pre-Cal en la preparatoria Dripping Springs High School. Ellas dos representarán a Dripping Springs ISD en el programa Maestros del Estado de Texas 2018-19.

Antes de unirse al equipo de personal inaugural de SSE, Miss Smoland trabajó cuatro años en la primaria Dripping Springs Elementary. Ms. Smoland trajo consigo 12 años de experiencia cuando vino a enseñar a DSISD: cuatro en Aiken County Schools (S.C.) y ocho en Hutto ISD. En su carrera como maestra ella ha enseñado desde pre Kínder a tercer grado. Además de su certificación como maestra, ella también está certificada como directora. Ms. Smoland sacó su título universitario en educación de temprana edad con la Universidad de Carolina del Sur y su maestría en liderazgo educacional con la universidad Stephen F. Austin.

Sara Freeman es maestra veterana en su octavo año enseñando en la preparatoria Dripping Springs High School, después de dar clases durante 26 años en Plano High School. Ella es maestro de cálculo y Pre-cálculo a nivel AP y GT. Además de su certificado en matemáticas, Ms. Freeman también está certificada en para enseñar inglés a nivel secundario. Ms. Freeman sacó su título en educación con Baylor University.
