SYCAMORE SPRINGS SCHOOLS RECEIVE RAIN CATCHER AWARD
The Sycamore Springs Elementary/ Sycamore Springs Middle School rainwater collection system has been chosen as one of five recipients of the Texas Water Development Board's Rain Catcher Award. The TWDB Rain Catcher Award is a rainwater harvesting competition and recognition program established to promote technology, educate the public, and to recognize excellence in the application of rainwater harvesting systems in Texas.
The rainwater collection system has been in operation since the two schools opened in August 2017. The schools employ three separate rainwater harvesting systems: two of the systems are used to supply water for toilet flushing and the third system is used to supply irrigation water. Each toilet flushing system has the potential to harvest approximately 200,000 gallons of rainwater during an average year of rainfall for Dripping Springs. The system that supplies water for the irrigation system can harvest approximately 160,000 gallons of rainwater during an average year of rainfall.
The Sycamore Springs campus was designed by Huckabee Architects and built by Lee Lewis Construction.
PRIMARIA Y SECUNDARIA SYCAMORE SPRINGS RECIBEN PREMIO POR SU SISTEMA DE RECOLECCIÓN DE AGUAS PLUVIALES
La primaria Sycamore Springs Elementary y la secundaria Sycamore Springs Middle School han sido escogidas entre cinco por su sistema de recolección de agua de lluvia para recibir el premio Texas Water Development Board's Rain Catcher Award. El premio TWDB Rain Catcher Award es un programa de reconocimiento y concurso de recolección de aguas pluviales establecido para promover la tecnologÃa, educar al público, y reconocer la excelente aplicación de los sistemas de recolecta de aguas pluviales en el estado de Texas.
El sistema de recolecta de agua de lluvia ha estado operando desde que las dos escuelas abrieron sus puertas en 2017. Las escuelas utilizan tres sistemas de recolección de aguas pluviales diferentes: dos de los sistemas se utilizan para proveer agua a los inodoros y el tercer sistema es utilizado para irrigación. Cada sistema de agua para los inodoros tiene el potencial de recolectar aproximadamente 200,000 galones de agua pluvial durante un año de lluvia promedio en Dripping Springs. El sistema que provee agua para irrigación puede recolectar aproximadamente 160,000 galones de agua con un promedio de lluvia normal durante un año.
