DSHS YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT COMPETES AT STATE

A total of 18 DSHS students competed in the Youth in Government state competition that was held at the State Capitol Jan. 25-27, 2018. The number of delegates qualifying for state and our overall leadership at state earned Dripping Springs HS the distinction of a "Premiere School," for the second consecutive year.

Youth in Government is a national program of the Y that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and to, quite literally, practice democracy.

Special honors were received by Addie Mae Villas, who earned the Delegation Leadership Award; and Sydney Morriss, who was selected as the Media Distinguished Delegate. The Judicial County Court team placed third in the state. The attorneys were Christopher Gearing and Gabriel Ybarra, and the witnesses were Gabe Peeples, Kiara Bobb, Gabrielle Avena, Natalie Chavez, and McKayla Mellen.

ALUMNOS DE DSHS COMPITEN EN EL EVENTO ESTATAL JUVENTUD EN EL GOBIERNO

Un total de 18 alumnos de DSHS compitieron en la competencia estatal de juventud en el gobierno que tuvo lugar en el capitolio del 25 al 27 de enero, 2018. El número de delegados que calificaron al concurso estatal y nuestro liderazgo en general en la estatal ganaron para Dripping Springs HS la distinción de “Premiere School”, por segundo año consecutivo.

Juventud en el gobierno es un programa nacional de la Y que involucra a miles de adolescentes de la nación en programas organizados por estado, que modelan el gobierno. Estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de sumergirse en un compromiso cívico experiencial y, literalmente, practicar la democracia.

Recibieron honores especiales Addie Mae Villas, quien ganó el premio de liderazgo delegativo; y Sydney Morriss, que fue seleccionada como delegada distinguida de medios de comunicación. El equipo de la corte judicial del condado sacó el tercer lugar en el estado. Los abogados fueron Christopher Gearing y Gabriel Ybarra, y los testigos fueron Gabe Peeples, Kiara Bobb, Gabrielle Avena, Natalie Chavez, y McKayla Mellen.
